Language Lab Soundfield Installation

Eighteen language labs were fitted with infrared soundfield systems so teachers could play listening material and speak to the class without raising their voices.
The Challenge
- Listening exercises required clean audio from the teacher’s PC while the teacher spoke over the material.
- Hard floors and glass partitions made the labs prone to reflections and feedback.
- Several students in each class used hearing assistance and needed consistent levels.
The Solution
- IR-S2 systems were connected to the teacher PC through the RCA input, with the pendant microphone mixed over the playback.
- Speakers were positioned forward of the teaching position and angled towards the seats to reduce reflections.
- Feedback suppression and tone controls were set during commissioning for each lab’s surface materials.
The Result
18language labs
2audio sources mixed per room
1system per lab, no rack
Teachers can play listening material and comment over it without changing inputs or raising their voice. The labs retain their existing PCs and furniture, with no additional AV rack or control system.
