K–12 District Classroom Audio Refresh

A K–12 district replaced aging RF classroom audio across six schools in a three-phase refresh, moving to infrared to eliminate campus-wide frequency planning.
The Challenge
- The district’s RF systems required channel coordination every time a school added rooms or changed timetables.
- Batteries and charging docks varied by school, creating a mixed fleet with inconsistent maintenance.
- The refresh had to be delivered during summer breaks without disrupting teaching.
The Solution
- A room-type survey grouped classrooms into standard, large and specialist rooms, each with a defined audio configuration.
- IR-S2 units were specified for standard classrooms; DW-3315 systems went to large and hybrid rooms.
- All schools received the same charging dock and microphone format to simplify spares and staff training.
The Result
260rooms across 6 schools
3phases over two summers
1microphone standard campus-wide
The district now specifies infrared for every classroom refresh. Frequency coordination has disappeared from the AV team’s workload, and a single spare-parts pool covers all six schools.
