University Active-Learning Classroom Conversion

Forty traditional lecture rooms were converted to active-learning layouts where students work in groups — each room needed a microphone students could pass around plus a clean feed to the recording system.
The Challenge
- The new room layout removed the lectern, leaving no fixed position for a lectern microphone.
- Group work meant the speaker changed every few minutes, and student contributions had to reach the room and the recording.
- Lecture capture required a single balanced audio feed, not a separate mixer per room.
The Solution
- DW-3315 systems were installed with their USB audio interface connected directly to the room PC used for capture.
- One wireless microphone stayed with the instructor; a second was routed to each table cluster on a rotating basis.
- Ceiling array microphones were mounted in the four largest rooms to pick up group discussion for recording only.
The Result
40rooms converted
1USB cable to the capture PC
0external mixers required
The university’s AV team now deploys the same audio package in every active-learning conversion. Recordings arrive with consistent levels regardless of which room or which instructor was teaching.
