Middle School Campus-Wide Broadcast and Assembly Audio

A middle school rebuilt its campus paging and assembly audio around a single infrared receiver and amplifier, covering the gymnasium, theatre and six outdoor gathering zones from one control position.
The Challenge
- Three separate aging amplifiers served the gym, theatre and yard speakers with no common control.
- Outdoor speakers required long cable runs and were prone to ground-loop hum.
- The school needed a simple way to switch between an assembly microphone and recorded bell or music sources.
The Solution
- An IR-911 receiver and amplifier drove the gym and theatre circuits, with the existing outdoor amplifier retained on a line output.
- SP-SH403 column speakers replaced failed units on the gym wall, chosen for their weather-resistant housing.
- A four-input source selector was configured so staff can switch between microphone, PC playback and the bell timer from one panel.
The Result
3amplifier zones consolidated
8speaker zones on one control point
1handheld microphone for assemblies
Assembly setup now takes one staff member and one microphone. The school’s maintenance team can isolate a zone without shutting down the whole campus system.
